Police find 580 pounds of marijuana in van

Virginia State Police troopers took two men into custody on the morning of Oct. 15 after discovering almost 600 pounds of marijuana in the van they were traveling in. The 26-year-old driver of the van and his unidentified male passenger have been charged with drug possession and drug possession with the intent to distribute. A VSP representative said that the drug seizure could be the largest ever recorded in the area.

Virginia man sentenced on federal drug charges

A 24-year-old Virginia man has been sentenced to more than seven years in a federal prison for dealing heroin and cocaine in the Hampton Roads area. The sentence was handed down in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia on Oct. 3. A jury found the man guilty of possession of narcotics with the intention to distribute in May.

3 Virginia men accused of drug trafficking

A tip from the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force to the Waynesboro Police Department resulted in a SWAT team raid at a home on James Avenue. Law enforcement had obtained a search warrant for the location where police believed that a man wanted for a parole violation was residing. Officers arrested three men at the location and seized drugs and firearms.

Feds bust up major drug ring

At the end of August, federal authorities busted a major drug distribution ring operating in Virginia, North Carolina and Texas. The three-day sting, dubbed "Operation Cookout," resulted in the arrests of 35 people.

Virginia man sentenced to 14 years in prison for drug dealing

On July 9, a 43-year-old Leesburg man was sentenced to 14 years in a Virginia prison after being convicted of multiple drug crimes. Following his release, he will also serve five years of supervised probation and five years of unsupervised probation. An additional 12 years of his sentence were suspended.

DEA operation at Virginia Walmart leads to 3 arrests

A 49-year-old Virginia man, a 42-year-old New York man, and a 28-year-old Georgia man were taken into custody on June 25 when federal agents assigned to a Drug Enforcement Administration narcotics task force conducted an operation in the parking lot of a Virginia Beach Walmart store. A DEA representative was guarded when asked about the details of the operation, but he did say that the men were allegedly involved in a cocaine deal worth $280,000.

Man caught in Virginia narcotics sting operation sentenced

A federal judge in Virginia has sentenced a 37-year-old man to 10 years and six months in prison for organizing a plot to buy 100 kilograms of cocaine. The Dominican Republic national entered into a plea agreement with U.S. attorneys in February. The charges he faced carried a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and could have sent him to prison for the rest of his life. A 24-year-old man was sentenced to six years and six months in federal prison for the role he played in the scheme.

Virginia man detained after $30k in drugs found

Police in Henry County detained a 31-year-old man after his residence was searched as part of an undercover operation. Deputies of the Henry County Sheriff's office searched the man's home after search warrants were executed. The man is suspected of running a meth house.
