3 Virginia men accused of drug trafficking

A tip from the Jefferson Area Drug Enforcement Task Force to the Waynesboro Police Department resulted in a SWAT team raid at a home on James Avenue. Law enforcement had obtained a search warrant for the location where police believed that a man wanted for a parole violation was residing. Officers arrested three men at the location and seized drugs and firearms.

According to a police department news release, the men surrendered to officers even though they had weapons without their reach. Police found an AR-15 rifle and 9mm handgun, and both were loaded. Officers reported finding 2.5 pounds of marijuana, .5 ounce of psychedelic mushrooms, 1.5 grams of refined marijuana, five ecstasy tablets and over 1,000 vials of THC liquid. The men also appeared to be in possession of $46,389 in cash.

All three men currently face charges for possession and intent to distribute marijuana and possessing firearms while engaging in the distribution of marijuana. The 35-year-old man among them had a previous felony conviction and received an additional charge for possessing a firearm as a felon. Authorities are holding him without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail. The court set bonds of $2,000 each for the other two men detained at the same facility.

A person taken into custody during a drug raid has a right to legal advice before making statements in court or answering any questions from investigators. A criminal defense attorney might provide an opinion about how to counter the allegations. The attorney might challenge law enforcement's assumption that the client was engaged in criminal activity or question whether the evidence supports the original charges.
