Artist faces criminal charges following incident in rural county

On Behalf of | Jul 28, 2017 | Drunk Driving (DUI)

Music fans in Virginia and across the country who have been following former teen idol Aaron Carter’s career may be interested in a case that is unfolding in the south. According to news sources, the 29-year-old celebrity is facing a number of drug-related charges following an incident in Habersham County on July 15.

Reports indicate that Carter and his girlfriend, photographer Madison Parker, were in a vehicle in a rural area approximately 87 miles north of Atlanta, GA, when they were detained about 9 p.m. Before he was taken into custody, Carter’s staff had announced on Twitter that the artist was going to miss his set time in Kansas City that night due to undisclosed “transportation issues.”

According to a Habersham County sheriff’s office official, Carter has been charged with DUI, possession of drug-related objects and possession of less than 1 ounce of marijuana. Parker was also taken into custody and is now facing two drug-related charges as well as charges of obstruction. Authorities in Habersham County have released few additional details about the case.

In a later statement on Twitter, Carter advised followers that he holds a license for medical marijuana, which he uses to manage anxiety. Fans were also advised that the singer plans to retain an attorney to handle the case.

Because driving under the influence may have serious legal ramifications, Virginia motorists who find themselves facing a drunk driving (DUI) charge may find it beneficial to schedule a case evaluation with a lawyer. An attorney who understands the complexities of the criminal justice system may be able to help the client better navigate the legal process and achieve the best possible outcome.Source: CNN, “Singer Aaron Carter arrested on DUI, marijuana charges, Georgia officer says,” Joe Sutton, 07/17/2017
