NFL star facing assault and DUI charges

Football fans in Virginia and around the country might be familiar with Indianapolis Colts player David Parry. The nose tackle has become a consistent starter for the Colts after being selected by the team in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft. However, the 24-year-old athlete is now facing charges of assault and driving under the influence in Arizona after a night out with friends allegedly ended on a violent note.

Scottsdale police say that officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the city in response to a 911 call at about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 25. The caller told the responding officers that a man had assaulted him and stolen his golf cart. Reports indicate that the man was legally using the golf cart as a taxi and had recently picked up three men at an area bar.

Police say that they were beginning their search for a suspect when they received a call about a nearby hit-and-run accident. When they arrived at the accident scene, they reportedly found Parry standing in the vicinity of the damaged golf cart. Officers claim that the NFL star acted belligerently and was taken into custody after showing obvious signs of intoxication. The NFL and Colts did not immediately respond to news of the incident, but some sort of action may be taken in the future as alleged violations of the league's substance-abuse policy are generally treated seriously.

Criminal defense attorneys often challenge drunk driving charges by disputing the results of toxicology tests or questioning the conduct of the police officers involved. However, there are situations where the facts may suggest an alternative approach. When their clients have behaved aggressively or otherwise acted out of character after drinking in a bar or restaurant, attorneys may suspect involuntary intoxication and call for more thorough blood tests.
